Becoming a Mentor has not only provided me with an opportunity to help a young adult find the right path, but it has also helped me realize how little it takes to make a difference in someone else's life. The bond I have established with my Mentee has stood strong over 3 years and I'm confident it will continue into her adult years. Nothing else I've accomplished in life has provided me with the same gratification. In addition to the great experience with my Mentee, I have also met some amazing fellow mentors and formed lasting friendships.

It is an absolute privilege for me to be part of a group of fine individuals who in the past 6 years have dedicated their time in making a difference in the lives of young Armenians. I couldn't have thought of a better way to give back to my community other than being there for our "Next Generation".
Rita Grigorian, mentor & task force member
I came to be part of Generation Next to help our youth to have a brighter future and to help to resolve their issues in education, communication, learn to respect and learn to have discipline in their lives.

The time I've spent in the program for the last two years has been special. I've met some great people and would like to think that I've succeeded in teaching at least a couple of things to my mentees about leading a productive adult life in our society. For this opportunity I thank Generation Next.
Harma Davtian, mentor
The first meeting for Generation Next, I had to pick up one of the mentees. I was a little nervous but as soon as I picked her, Hayarpi, up we were connected at the hip. We had such an amazing bond, I really couldn't believe it. When I joined this program, I initially thought that I was going to help Hayarpi in every possible way that I could, but let me tell you......she also brought and still brings great joy to my life....... she 's like my sister now and I have Generation Next to thanks. Thank you!

Being a mentor for the past three years has been incredibly gratifying. It's amazing what a big difference a little effort can make in a kids life. I've learned just as much from my mentee as he has from me. It's great to be 14 again.

After touring the Ronald Reagan Library, Vahe presented me with a couple of gifts. There was the pack of cinnamon candy, which we all immediately tasted in the bus, but more importantly there was a rolled up copy of the Proclamation of Independence. This second gift was completely unexpected, as it is not a something that youngsters are attracted to. He had genuinely made an effort to get me an adult gift.

Last year Armen was as the mentee of Raffi. Armen, being a big guy, used to get into all sorts of fights and trouble. Raffi on the other hand was a successful lawyer. Months after Raffi had left the program, in a chat with Armen, he told me that the more he thought about it, the more he saw a bit of Raffi in his own future. A mentee's identification with a positive influence is the cornerstone of this program, wouldn't you say?

One of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences. To make a positive change in a young man's life, no matter how small. The friendships and the bonds we build in the process is invaluable.
Roubik Golanian, mentor
Being a mentor has been a very meaningful experience for me - I feel part of a great community of people.

Being a positive force in a young person's life has turned out to be both a greater challenge and a more satisfying experience than I ever would have thought. I highly recommend the Generation Next program - you'll learn a lot while getting the chance to give back to the community.

The people I've met at Generation Next have become great friends.
Lori Yeghiayan, mentor
My experience during the past three years as a mentor has been fun, sometimes disappointing, but overall very educational and useful for myself and the mentee. I've had the privilege to be a mentor to a young kid who cared to look up to no one but rap artists such as 2pac. I've gotten the chance to dwell in the thoughts and life of a young kid who has the potential but not the guidance to maximize his abilities. It has been gratifying to know that over the years he has become more interested in setting life goals and thinking about his future. I plan on staying in touch and being friends with him long after we're done with this program.

Adolescents need attention, a commodity that is sometimes in short supply in a fast-paced and hectic society. Generation Next offers an invaluable service to adolescents and our Armenian community at large by linking young people with adult role models who offer them guidance, a compassionate ear and, most importantly, a brighter future.
Vicken Kabakian, Marriage Family Therapist
AGBU Generation Next gives them positive role models and reinforces the value system we already have as a community. We know we can always motivate youngsters to achieve more.
